Writing & Spelling Stages

The natural stages of writing include circles, lines, diagonals and then curved and patterned lines prior to writing letters. These resources are EVERYWHERE from printing sheets off line to purchasing cheep alphabet books at dollar stores OR creating them quickly yourself.
There are four categories of writing that include accuracy, practice, creativity and proficient. All four hold value and are important to the writing process. The natural stages of understanding spelling include concepts of words and word parts such as separating words out within sentences, rhyming word parts, syllabication, and understanding Greek and Latin roots. |

AccuracyA tracing practice either for words or phrases that guide letter repeating patterns and support muscle memory.

PracticeA copy and write approach. It includes looking and transferring letters from one place to writing the same word or phrase to another space accurately.

CreativeA writing approach that allows a child the space to discover how words and sounds come together. This form of writing can be used for quick assessment for the purpose of understanding what the child knows about sounds of words, structure of words and also sentences.

ProficientThe proficiency approach consists of editing concepts including grammar, punctuation and correcting any errors in syntax or spelling. Proficiency is achieved through what many consider the Writing Process. This includes a plan, rough draft, revision, editing and publishing.
