Why This Series?

The StepIN Reading Series was not created in a lab, a boardroom, or even a publishing office — it was born from a mother’s tear-stained prayers, a teacher’s broken heart, and an unrelenting advocate’s refusal to give up on her child.
For years, I wrestled with feelings of inadequacy and a deep sense of not being "enough" — not smart enough, not good enough, not strong enough. That same fear resurfaced when my bright, curious son was labeled a "non-reader" by a system that didn’t see his worth or his potential. As a certified teacher, I had all the tools — but nothing worked. I watched my child suffer, fall behind, and be dismissed. The pain was unbearable, and the system’s solutions failed us over and over again.
It wasn’t until I hit rock bottom — in the classroom, in motherhood, and in my own soul — that I discovered something extraordinary: I am my child’s greatest advocate, and God is my greatest guide. Through inspiration, intensive research, and prayerful persistence, I began piecing together what the system missed — the brain, the body, the spirit, and how they all connect to unlock the mind’s ability to read.
The StepIN Reading Series is the result of this transformational journey. Built from research by experts like Marie Montessori, Ronald D. Davis, Norman Doidge, Alfred Tomatis, Dianne Craft, and others, this series distills complex strategies into a simple, parent-led path that any family can follow — without spending thousands on tutors or programs that miss the mark. The first two books in this series, StepIN Pre-Read: Book 1 & Book 2, lay the foundation to awaken the reader within your child through purposeful exercises, guided videos, and hands-on activities that work with how your child’s brain is wired — not against it.
This series exists because ONE child — my child — was told he would never read.
And because ONE mother refused to believe it.

How It Works...

The StepIN Reading Program is not your typical "fill-in-the-blank" workbook. This is an interactive, hands-on learning experience designed to build deep, lasting reading skills—starting with the foundational steps that most traditional programs skip over.
This book is not meant to be rushed through. Instead, it has been intentionally designed to be progressive, interactive, and deeply engaging, with activities that must be practiced with care, repetition, and accuracy to be effective.

Adult or Older Sibling Support Recommended
While some activities can be completed by your child alone, most will require your support or supervision—especially in the early stages. If you're a parent, caregiver, teacher, or even an experienced older sibling, your presence and guidance will help:
  • Ensure activities are completed correctly
  • Model accuracy and attention to detail
  • Encourage proper pacing and avoid rushing
  • Build a meaningful connection through joint learning

Repetition Is Key – One Step at a Time
Each chapter introduces a foundational concept or skill that builds upon the previous one. Because these skills are meant to create new neurological patterns, repetition over time is essential.
  • Practice one section of activities until the entire section is accurately completed unless otherwise instructed
  • Do not repeat the same activity multiple times in one day—this can lead to frustration or burnout... take the time needed to work on the activities, it is not a race.
  • Repeat activities daily until your child performs the task with ease and accuracy
  • Once a chapter’s tasks are mastered, then and only then, move on to the next chapter unless otherwise stated
🚨 IMPORTANT: Skipping ahead or rushing through the book will reduce the effectiveness of the program. Each task is intentionally designed to prepare the brain for the next. Think of it as building a staircase—you can’t jump three steps ahead and expect the same results.

Accuracy Before Completion
Children should practice the correct motion or concept first with their finger before picking up a crayon, pencil, or marker. For example:
  • Tracing should first be done with the finger slowly and accurately
  • Only after the child can trace smoothly and correctly should a crayon or other tool be introduced
This supports proper muscle memory, pattern recognition, and visual-spatial coordination, all critical for reading success.

📹 Video Support Available
Need a demonstration or extra help?
Special access will be granted to all StepIN Reading Participants on this website for the following:
  • Video examples of each activity
  • Support for proper pacing and technique
  • Tips to ensure your child is getting the most from the program

Why This Format?
This method was born out of real-life experience, a journey of struggle, learning, and spiritual guidance. Traditional reading programs often overlook foundational processes that are essential for true reading fluency—especially for children who struggle.
This book was created because the author lived it. After years of heartbreak and trial, she discovered that true learning happens when principles are practiced with patience, care, and intention—not when we rush from lesson to lesson just to “get it done.”

Final Thought
Your child can learn to read.
This book gives you the tools to help them succeed—not through shortcuts, but through purposeful, mindful, foundational learning. You are your child’s best advocate.

Take this journey together--one step at a time. Your Greatest Story is ONE page Away!
